TREES PLANTED ON THE CLIFF

Posted by PicasaOur lot is along the cliff, like most of the lots in La Isla. In fact that's why it's called La Isla."island". This community has steep cliffs on both sides, making it like an island.

We have planted many trees, a special type, that grows really large roots into the
ground, holding our ground firm and preventing erosion. These Guatemalans know all about living and growing things on this type of land. You can see this all over Guatemala, and it's really quite beautiful. Please click on the photos to get a good look at the trees, there are dozens.

School In La Isla

The school was started in 2004 in a poor community in Guatemala City, called La Isla. La Isla in Spanish means "island". This community is a strip of undeveloped land with steep cliffs on either side. We borrowed a "patio" from one family for several years and rented a "patio" one year, and finally this year we were able to start building our own school building. Praise God!
